21 June Sarria - Portomarin 23 km

22 juni 2017 - Villar De Mazarife, Spanje

Today again a hot day with temperatures up to 35 degrees C and 23 km. As Sarria is the last village/town (maybe) before the 100 km mark many pilgrims star their camino here. Today lots people arrived by taxi in Sarria and even a couple of (spanish) school classes arrived by buss to start the trip, so today the trail was alive with kids and young people some of which cary a bleu tooth speaker and they enjoy their walk talking animatedly even though it is very hot. Teachers and parents have a hard time to keep it all together.
It was quite a tough walk and it made me again think of Kennedy's speech, I think it was in 1961 when he declared that the USA was going to put a man on the moon before the decade runs out. What he a.o. said was something like: ''We are not doing it because it's easy. We are doing it because it's hard. We are doing it because it's difficult.'' It is a quote I often think about when I feel tired, my feet or shoulders are aching or I just feel a bit down.
That quote expresses quite well how I feel about the Camino and why I'm doing it, and maybe many pilgrims feel that way.
Tomorrow 25 km to Palas de Rei.
