Bolsena - Montefiascone 18 km, 22 October 2022

To day a short stage of 18 km from Bolsena to Montefiascone. I call it Montefiasco as it makes it a bit easier to remember. As the name suggests the village sits on a hilltop some 600+ 'm over sealevel and one really has to do some climbing in the end to get there. The houses and the cathedral are made of a dull dark grey vulcanic stone that gives the streets a bit of a dreary look. The walk here was however along a beautiful wooded track overlooking the Lake Bolsena on the right hand side. The lake was formed when the vulcano Vulsini long ago exploded and the crater was filled up by rain water. Walking this morning along the shore of the lake I couldn't resist and took my clothes off for a swim in the lake. Quite refreshing.

A thin sun was shining through the clouds and a bit of a fresh wind blowing of the lake made the temperature and the walk quite agreeable. Now only 6 days of walking left and as Viterbo is said to be a nice place I figure I may have a day of rest.
