Viterbo - Vetralla - Sutri 16 + 24 km, 25 and 26 October

26 oktober 2022 - Sutri, Italië

After the rest day close to Viterbo it was only 16 km to Vetralla most of the time through endless fields with some sort of cabbage (everything even smelled like cabbage) and later on huge olive groves. Vetralla wasn't really much to look at but luckily I met Peter and his camino friend Allesandro and we had some beers together. I used the time to wash some clothes and rest some more in a hostel  that was situated along a heavy trafficked road. Not the best night for sleeping. To day an early start   with Peter and Allesandro towards the old Roman city of Sutri. It was a beautiful trip trough forests with huge oak trees, chestnut and parasol pine trees and lots of other growth. Then things changed as we walked through huge plantations where Hazelnut trees were grown as far as the eye can see. A lot of Nutella must come from here 😀. We also passed through the old medieval village of Capranica and descended from there for the last 7 or 8 km of the trip downhill along a small river wooded, shady and cool towards Sutri. This village also hosts a Roman amfiteater hewn out of tuffstone. We'll pass by it tomorrow. This evening we also met up with Caroline and Monica from Germany for dinner in a restaurant (Trattoria) where they serve local food like wild boar, Guinea foal the Etruscan way, dishes with huge mushrooms and what's more.

Only 3 days left to Rome and tomorrow 27 km to Campagnano di Roma.
