Altopascio - San Miniato 29 km 11th of October

To day it was a very nice but long stretch of 29 km mainly through woods and along/over the dikes of the canal Maestro and the river Arno with beautiful long range views of the landscape of Tuscany as I remember it with the characteristic pine trees and cypresses. I left Altopascio together with some of the other guys we by now know quite well, but I lost them  out of sight after a while as they go a bit faster then I like to do. Allthough it was a flat stretch generally away from traffic, it should have been OK for me, but today my feet were aching and it wasn't until 6 pm I arrived at the Convent in San Miniato pretty nackered. As we are all staying in the Convent of the Franciscan order, I'll see the others this evening for dinner which is included in the price for the stay. 

What I have seen of San Miniato so far it looks like a nice old town on a mountain top, but I don't think I have the energy to go out again and have a closer look at it.

Let's hope I sleep well to night so as to be ready  for another 24 km to Gambassi Terme, which is from old a Spa place. Hopefully I have the time to use those bathing facilities to morrow.
