San Miniato - Gambassi Terme - Montecchio 24 + 24 km 12th and 13th of October 22

13 oktober 2022 - Montecchio, Italië

Yesterday I startet off on my own after having bought a couple of panini for lunch in the village. Nice temperature and a thin sun in the sky. After a couple of hours Peter from Canada came steaming from behind and walked the rest of the way together with me. We had good conversations along the way and as he is a biologist he had lots of interesting things to talk about, like among others cells and its contents, trees and plants. Not a dull moment and 24 km went like a dream especially as for the first time I didn't have this pain in my toes all the time. Thinner woolen socks did the trick! Gambassi Terme appeared to be a nice place where I found lodging in a B&B. We met for dinner with Marian and Paul from Holland. Good company.

To day the trail brought us 14 km to San Gimignano and as to morrow's stage would be as much as 30 km, Peter and me decided to walk another 10 km to Borgatello where we had booked a B&B and arrived just before sundown.

San Gimignano is of course one of the great and famous cytties of Tuscany and it was indeed a beautiful old village with many of these characteristic square high towers one can see  all over in the Tuscany villages and towns. As we met Leonardo and the Australians again we all had a good lunch and a beer in San Gimignano in some fancy restaurent a little off the main street which was filled with tourists even this time of year. The Church with its famous biblical frescoes was definitely worth a visit.

To morrow 20 km to Monteriggioni.
