22 May Cirauqui - Ayegui 17 km

22 mei 2017

To day we had to leave the albergue at 08:00 hrs, so for us an early start, which was a good thing on a rekaticely hot day. Temperatures of up to 30 degrees and rising to an expected 33 degrees C the coming days. Again a walk through a beautiful landscape mainly on gravel paths. This time it was me slowing us down as my left foot is playing tricks again. I hope it will get better soon. There seem to be less pilgrims on the trail now, but still enough so one doesn't get lonely, however this may also be the result of us walking out of synch with the typical stopping places mentioned in the books. This morning we said farewell to Irish Sarah and her mother Marian who were good company during dinner last evening. They have been walking for a week just to try out the concept and are travelling home to morrow from Estella (which we walked through at noon to day on our way to Ayegui). We said also good bye to other nice people like Philippe from France and Alberto from Argentina, although we may meet them again later somewhere on the trail.
Sleeping last night was by the way an ordeal for some of us due to loud snoring by some others, so not everyone was in good spirits this morning.
To day we are staying at a large, but new, modern and clean municipal pilgrim refuge in Ayegui with some 70 bunkbeds divided over two rooms and good ear plugs are recommended.
To morrow Los Arcos...
