24 - 25 May Los Arcos - Viana - Logroño 28 km

25 mei 2017

Two more, even hotter days, with a maximum of 33 degrees C today. So actually to warm to walk very long distances. Sander is leaving tomorrow morning early by buss from Logroño to Bilbao and onwards to Norway back home in the evening. That leaves me two days walking on my own to Nájera where my brother Hans will join me for the rest of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. Looking forward to get to know my big brother even better.
I really enjoyed walking with Sander. We have had good fun and he makes contact with others so easyly. He says he enjoyed it too and maybe he'll complete his Camino sometime in the future. During the trip from Los Arcos, or maybe even before, Sander got acquainted with a ''group'' of other mainly young enthousiastic pilgrims from all over the place, with Oli from Germany, Steve from the USA and others from Brasil, Japan and what not of whom I regrettably have forgotten the names. (See group photo) All very very nice people whom I hope we'll meet again lateron.
Walking the Camino in Spain I find is quite different from walking in France. Here in Spain the Camino is more and all around you, more pigrims, the path is much better indicated and seems more adapted for the Camino. There are more places to stay the night, the villages more lively and always a bar to provided some shade, refreshments and food. The landscape is of course also different from France which was very green whereas it is more dry and hot in Spain at this latitude. So far so good! Logroño is a very nice town with a beautiful cathedral (worth a visit) and lots of bars and restaurants.
(A pilgrim doesn't have much interest in shops as you don't want to carry more stuff around, but there are plenty of nice shops too.) Dinner time! Bye for now
