26 - 27 May Logroño - Ventosa - Azofra 36 km

27 mei 2017

Sander left our hostel at 06:00 hrs on the 26th and is now safely back home again. It gets boring to tell the same story again, but yesterday was another hot day and I am glad I did only 17 km to Ventosa and stayed in the only, but nice Alberge in the place. Met a lot of other nice pilgrims among others from the USA and Germany. Again it was fully booked. 3 young girls came in late and they had been walking through the thunderstorms. They were wet and got the last 3 beds in our dorm, but no blankets were provided and they didn't bother to unpack and just crashed out on the mattress. Unevitably they got pretty cold and all three were freezing by the time we had to get up. Poor girls.
After breakfast in the local bar I set off for Nájera. Fortunately the night's thunderstorms had cooled the air a bit and it became a pleasant walk through lots of wine and corn fields. Nájera is a very nice town with a beautiful old cloister / church which is now a museum and the visit was really worth while. I also ran incidentally into Annelies who was still on the Camino with Jan and Jaap. A happy reunion. However as it was only 12 O'clock I decided to push on to Azofra which was another 6 km and just right for me. Only thing is, it may be a bit difficult for Hans to find, ( he found a buss in Burgos which should go past here) but his bed is ready. ...
Hope he gets here before they stop serving dinner at the bar.....

Even though I realize that it can be uncomfortable to walk that long at such temperatures, the scenery and all the other experiences make it seem really attractive to me! But those little daily concerns for clothes and food and a bed seem challenging at times - and are therefore probably important parts of pilgrimage? Sending you both my best wishes for a blessed walk tomorrow!
