24 april St Martin de Vieux - Chalus 19 km E

24 april 2017

First of all congratulations to my son René who turned 30 to day and my brother Dick who turned 65 to day!
After a very good night sleep in a double bed all to myself a short trip to day of some 19 km. A hot day again and my foot being as it is Janick and me took it slowly. Even so at about 14 hrs to day I ran low on bloodsugar and had to sit down beside the road immediately to have something to eat as my legs were feeling like jelly. It should also be said that the French breakfast ( Petit Déjeuner) really is petitte as it mainly consists of some bread ''crums'' of baguette and jam/ confiture in addition to coffee. How people can survive on this is for many hours I don't know but it certainly isn't enough for me who under the circumstances has better need for a full English breakfast with bacon and egs, fried potatoes and tomatoes, sausages and mushrooms! So every morning first thing I have to secure extra food, usually a pain and a saucison sec for lunch....
The hotel here in Chalus, which we had reserved, was closed all day until 18 hrs, so we decided to cancel and booked into another where we have a room each for the same money. To lighten my back pack I have thrown away another T shirt, a woolen undershirt and some other stuff that I'm probably not going to use anyway. A shame but there you go!
To morrow another short etappe to La Coquille.

my Ipod recorded 28100 steps and 1417 calories.
Good night!

Very interesting story today, Paul. Maybe you should give the foot a bit more time to recuperate? Happy Birthday to Dick (Dicky, as he is known to me) and Rene (30 already?) Dick and I cycled through France near where Paul is walking now, so many years ago.

You need it!
    Take care!

    I'll keep you posted.
    Liefs van Paul

    Beste Paul,

    Groeten, Dick

I know a super solution to elevate blood sugar and get more calories (perhaps suggested in Dutch already?): chocolate! One drawback, though - when it's too warm for woollen underwear, it melts easily. Only solution: consume quickly! Wishing you both a sweet day!
