28 May Azofra - Santo Domingo de la Calzada 16 km

28 mei 2017

My brother Hans arrived yesterday evening at ca. 17:30 and it was great to see him full of expectation and all ready to walk the remain der of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. Not a perfect night's sleep after too much beer and wine, but it would have to do for the day's walk of only 16 km. ( I was up at 05:45 hrs to go to the loo and saw that most people on our floor had already left the place!) At check in I saw btw in the pilgrim's book that a bed bug had been found the day before in one of the neighbouring rooms, so I didn't really feel at ease, but didn't say anything to Hans about it....
We got up at 07:15 and after a big croissant and a coffee ( tea for Hans) we set off at 08:20 for Santo Domingo. With a nice temperature and a refreshing breeze from behind it was a pleasant walk again through fields of corn and wine. Halfway we even passed a golf course and I was ''dragged'' into the gate as I felt like hitting a few buckets of balls. As a compromise we got a cup of coffee /tea in the club's cafeteria. I was a bit apprehensive about Hans' walking speed and it seems he normally goes a bit faster than me, but he managed to restrain himself and adapted mostly to my walking pace, although on the other hand I may have geared up a bit as we walked into Santo Domingo already at a quarter passed twelve which means an average of 4 km an hr. With breaks and all I normally do around 3,5 km an hour or even less. Hans still has to adapt to the slow lane....
Tomorrow it is expected to rain 20 mm and we have to do 23 km to Belorado.
