29 May Santo Domingo de La Calzada - Belorado 25 km.

29 mei 2017

To day was a pretty tough day for me, trying to keep up with Hans. He has a faster pace than me, and inevitably my left foot started hurting again, so I just have to take it slow. We missed a Camino sign somewhere this morning and had to do a couple of km extra. Watch out for yellow arows is important to stay on track. Our two polish friends and at least one other pilgrim followed us and had to pay the price. Although the weather forcast said there would be rain showers all day, we luckily only had one at noon which lasted for some 15 minutes, so that wasn't so bad. We were supposed to arrive at the Alberge before 3 o'clock and that's what we managed with good margin, but again a tough walk most of the time close to a heavily trafficked road with all the noise that comes with it.
Something different. I forgot to tell about a somewhat funny episode which occurred at the Alberge of Azofra. I had to go to the loo in the middle of the night and coming back through the long and dark corridor I happened to step into the room before ours and I sat myself on the bed, at least that was the idea until I felt I sat right on top of somebody else and my first thought was that Hans had taken my bed, but then I saw that the other bed was occupied, so it wasn't that what was wrong. This all occurred to me in a split second and the body under my bottom turned around heftily and pushed me away. I got up and left the room without a word and found our own room. Found out later I had been sitting on a woman who didn't say a word and made no fuss.... We had a good laugh when I told Hans about it. Tomorrow a short walk of some 12 km to Villafranca as it was impossible to get beds at San Juan de Ortega as everything is booked already. This way it is also possible to split up the 30 km route to Burgos in a two day affair. Now we have booked in Villafranca and Atapuerca the day after before we reach Burgos on Thursday the 1st of June.

Mooi verhaal Paul :) En het lijkt me verstandig om je eigen tempo aan te houden!
Ik vind het bijzonder om al het groen te zien, bij mij was alles meer blond geel en bruin! Buen Camino
